Mona Lisa

Probably the most famous work of art in the western world.  Mona Lisa was painted by Leonardo da Vinci from 1503 to 1507.  It is painted on poplar wood and was taken by da Vinci to France in 1516.  King Francois bought the painting for 4,000 ecus.  It is still owned b y the French government and it hangs in the Musee du Lourve in Paris.
